They were the runners up NAR 2004 but the fact that they couldn’t win didn’t stop them from doing what they are good at.
Their debut “Ananmontuo” album that became a sudden hit could not have been forgotten in last year’s Ghana Music Awards where they carried home two awards, record of the year and reggae song of the year with the “Goozy Ganda” and “Big Dreams” tracks on the album.
The name of the duo WUTAH simply means fire in Hausa. But does it really echo in their music?
“Adonko” is a love song that contains mixed messages expressing romance, intense longing and disappointment. “I gave my heart to you when I remembered the things you told me, I gave my heart to you when I remembered the promises you made”. These lyrics of Wutah and the mode in which they were created is a pointer to their bright future and an indication of the gem that dwells in them.
Don’t dare tell them they’re doing hiplife, hilife or any genre of music for they will tell you all they know is doing good music, the genre does not really matter. Adonko is certainly a hit in the clubs and pubs, more so when it has a hot beat and a dance beat tune. “Adonko” is a good one.
Without limit to their talents, Wutah drives you into a sweet Reggae beat on the next track titled big dreams. It’s a slow tempo song with a lot of unforgettable guitar hooks and good harmony to match. Coming outta de ghetto where de gunshot always echo, no other set of words could’ve made the song catchy.
These were the words that started the song which many find easy to sing along to. Big dreams, all I can see, sometimes I try to make them true, reminiscent of their experience in life and the music career. The song tells you Wutah can only see the big dreams in spite of all the difficulties along the way.
I’ve been working all night and day, trying to find some bread ad butter, time will tell them poor man’s zeal, still we want a nice and a better place to live, they want to make it quick but I can never kill. It won’t be wrong to say such a song can be an apt signature tune for any inspirational program.
Goosy Gander was the first popular song on the album. It’s hard to tell if there is even anything least on Wutah’s CD. This is a song that resonates with a nursery rhyme. But don’t get it wrong, as the chorus may be misleading. Well, I am curious to know who is either upstairs or downstairs in my little chamber.
Another love song that carries the weight of a WBA heavy weight champion, assuredly a huge hit as its receiving rave reviews and riding high on the airwaves. Maa Mary has the beauty, the character, humbleness and patience, sleep by me tonight as we sweet talk; hearing Wutah sing these words in twi carries an indescribable feeling that if translated in one’s day to day life shows how salient love is in human life. The presence of Appietus and his golden fingers “in the mix” on this track cannot be overemphasized. The rhythm behind it aids in making it sound as though it’s without elaboration, a nursery rhyme but when you listen deeper, it says quite more than that.
Now months or even years after the release of their debut “Anamontuo” album, Wutah Risky and Wutah Vyrus have been silent for quiet some time now. Apart from the single track titled “Esikyere” (Change your style) which was the Appietus compilation, the funs of Wutah are yet to experience what is in stock for them.
In a chat with their manager Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD) of Radio Gold he said his boys are still in the studio putting things together and promised Ghanaians that Wutah will bring out something that is wealth or the time they have been waiting. The only thing he needs from the funs of Wutah is patience.
