One of the all-time favourite American pop songs is “If Loving You Is Wrong I Don’t Want To Be Right.” It is about an illicit love affair and has been performed by many stars including Millie Jackson, Rod Stewart, Percy Sledge and Cassandra Wilson.

What some people seem to be defiantly saying in Ghana now is that if loving marijuana or ganja is wrong, they don’t want to be right.

No matter what some people feel about it, the possession and use of ganja is wrong and a punishable offence in this country.

We have had reason in this space in the past to remind all about the glamour associated with show business and the special appeal ‘stars’ hold in the eyes of the general public.

We would like to reiterate that whatever causes and products these ‘stars’ directly or even indirectly vouch for are regarded as endorsements by the public.

That’s why it is always necessary for such ‘stars’ to watch their words and actions in public. We are therefore appalled by a young musician and radio presenter, Black Rasta’s blatant endorsement of the herb on public television.

It is a fact that a few other radio presenters also advocate the use of marijuana on their programmes. One does not know why those young men are so enamoured with a substance that has been empirically shown to adversely affect the human system with continued usage.

Those presenters and all others who agree with their line of thinking must learn to keep their views to themselves.

We need to expunge the drug menace from this system so we do not need any over-enthusiastic and misguided young folks to misinform the public about ganja.
