After hearing on radio the news of the release of ace highlife musician, Daasebre Gyamena, I quickly recalled an article captioned “Don’t condemn Daasebre yet”, which was authored by my good friend, Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo and published in the August 31, 2006 edition of Showbiz.
He concluded the said piece by stressing that the most prudent thing for us to do was to hold our tongues for a minute, pray for a thorough and fair investigation and hope for Daasebre Gyamena’s exoneration.
Kudos to Arnold for that brilliant, insightful and optimistic submission.
Infact the high sense of cynicism, premonition and vilification spewed out by some Ghanaians with regard to Daasebre’s arrest smacked of condemnation even before his trial. Thank God he is now a free and innocent man.
Even in situations where there are no concrete and enough evidence to convict suspected robbers or thieves who are put on trial the court would have not choice but to acquit them.
In spite of that, many people never believed the judgment could eventually turn in his favour, His acquittal and discharge lend credence to the saying that a suspect remains innocent until he or she is proven guilty.
Whoever might have wickedly decided to frame him up should bow his head in shame and confess his evil deeds to God for forgiveness, because the evil that men do always lives after them.
Our artistes must be very mindful of the kind of people they associate themselves with and learn a great deal of lessons from the experiences Daasebre went through.
If this iconic Ghanaian highlife musician had otherwise been convicted, it would have spelt his downfall. Therefore, his exoneration is worth celebrating with hysterical euphoria. Indeed, his release is a victory for the rule of law.
You are welcome. Daasebre
