Ok, just when you think TV couldn’t get any worse it sinks to the lowest low. When we heard Abeiku Santana, the afternoon voice on Adom FM was stepping onto the Silver Screen; it was a bit of a challenge to picture him there.
But we didn’t have much of a choice did we? How was he going to translate from his ways on radio to doing serious role on television?
First of all, the show is not that different from any other entertainment show we have. They all tow the same line and it gets boring after a while; same music countdown, same vox pop, same interview session… bla bla bla… nothing exciting.
In some of his shows he interviewed, Kwami Sefa Kayi, Christina Love, Akorfa Adjeani and a few others. It came as a shock then, when he decided to interview himself.
At first glance, you would think that he was merely up to one of his comic antics. Next thing we know he’s actually going the full mile.
Imagine Larry King Live interviewing himself, or perhaps Opera entertaining her guests with an interview of herself and how she came into being.
It doesn’t happen. When and if celebrities want us to know about them, they either get other people to interview them, (assuming they merit such a kindly deed) or they write a book.
But, since reading is a problem for many Ghanaians, we see why that might present itself as an insurmountable task.
He went on to show us pictures of his family and all that. It was distasteful if you ask me.
No matter what reason they decide to give, that was the worst thing he could do for his show.
It’s such a shame we do not have proper critic ratings in Ghana. Some shows are actually taken off the screens because they received poor ratings.
It’s the only way we can make certain of the kind of information that is put out to the general public.
People do deserve good quality entertainment.
Many folks have totally given up on our TV stations for very obvious reasons. Those who can, have some cable television to escape to.
