The name Appiah Dankwah would not mean much in the music industry but the mention of Appietus would make heads turn. “Appietus simply means Appiah and his tools” and I derived this phrase from the fact that when I get all my tools together I can do anything I want to do”.
Appietus have been in the Ghanaian music industry for the last 1Oyrs and his fruits are there for all to see. Since his early projects with Nananom, Keteke, Chico Dawuni, NFL, among several others, through years to new giants in the industry like Ofori Amponsah, Kwabena Kwabena, Obrafour, Dada KD just to mention but a few, Appietus has proven his versatility beyond doubts.
His concept of adding his signature to any song he work on and the idea compiling the works of stars he has worked with his now an accepted concept almost every sound engineer in the country is aspiring to do. ‘I don’t want to claim ownership of been the first engineer to add his signature to a song for that is not what I am here to do.
The first song I did with a signature was with Sidney on his ‘Apuskeleke’ album and that made people to really understand the dawn of the new era I was introducing into the Ghanaian music industry.
To celebrate his work and tireless efforts which has deprived him of a normal life like most of his peers, Appietus together with his managers are coming out with another first in the music industry. On the 8th of December 2006 at the Accra International Conference Center, Appietus together with every artist he has worked and other stars in the country will celebrate what he has dubbed as ‘The Life of Appiah’.
Apart from showcasing my achievements in the last l0 years I see this event bringing everybody together under one roof to make merry, take pictures and hold any of their favorite stars and forget about their worries. Through this event my fans and other music enthusiasts will get to know that I have been around all these while.
The event which is been organized by Charter House would be an opportunity for Appietus to reveal his much talked about documentary. He summed his achievements in the number of hits and innovative projects he has undertaken or has been involved in. ‘I don’t only look at the number of awards I have won but how well I have been able to make a good song of what an artist brought.
I am also happy when I see the joy and delight on the faces of artists I have worked with’. To this end Appietus has won the best sound engineer for 2006 at the Ghana Music Awards. He also won the best sound engineer in the Ghana Music Awards - London version in 2005.
One major challenge Appietus thinks he faces on daily basis is trying to make hits all the time. ‘I want to make good use of everybody I work with. When I work with you, I want to make everything about your project big and this motivates me to always lift my performance and ways of thinking.
My tool and major weapon is my sound quality and I will do anything to protect it. I always make sure my sounds hit you and you feel it. I like working with artists who are natural and portray a lot of originality in their work since that is what I am made of.
To silence his critics about his inability to record gospel artists, Appietus is putting finishing touches to some tracks on the next album of Josh Laryea, the best gospel artist in 2005.
