The team on the Local Chart, Megahits, would like to respond to some inaccuracies and accusations in the publication of the November 30-December 6, 2006 edition of the Graphic Showbiz captioned “Sabotage, Payola Influence or What?”
First, the team has no grudge whatsoever against Castro in person. Also Castro’s new album Communication Centre had already entered the Joy FM charts at Number 19 on November 25, 2006, thus, a week after Praye and Akatakyie entered the charts and a week before the said publication in the Showbiz.
Indeed Praye and Akatakyie’s new albums had made their appearances earlier on the charts on November 18, 2006 at Numbers 19 and 20 respectively, simply because our data sources indicated sales push in their favour.
It is rather ironic and obvious that the writer, “an industry player and lover of hiplife”, has not taken pains to investigate the sales of songs on the market, and did not take the same pains to investigate the performance of Castro’s Toffee album on Joy FM charts.
For the records, Castro’s Toffee album entered the Joy FM charts on January, 2005, topped the charts at Number 1 for 8 weeks, spent 48 weeks on the charts before exiting on December 10, 2005. Moreover, this same album peaked at Number 2 in our overall countdown on December 31, 2005 from data compiled in the entire year of 2005, and that was no mean achievement for Castro, hence a clear misrepresentation of the issue of “sabotage and payola” by the writer.
We would like to state again that sabotage and payola has no role in the format for the Joy FM Chart Show and if Fred Adzeshie has any such information, he failed to disclose it.
This is Ghana’s most trusted and wanted chart show and will remain as such because of its dedicated team members and cherished listeners who offer factual and constructive criticisms. Thank you for the opportunity.
We have the honour to be: Cox Tamakloe, Kwasi Anim Adjei, Nii Ayi Tagoe and Danile Shankson Blankson.
