Radio presenting in the Ashanti Region is very challenging and cumbersome. Every station tries very hard to improve on what they do and also satisfy their listening public positively.
The hosting of morning shows especially is considered the most difficult segment as the host and the production team must work efficiently to produce a worthy show and also have their facts right in other not to disappoint their listeners.
The General Manager of Solid fm has finally occupied the seat for their morning show “Tontonsansan” to compete with the other morning show hosts in the Ashanti Region.
Being the General Manager he handles affairs of general administration of the station and all departments are under his supervision. He developed an interest for radio since childhood but became a broadcaster when he was a student at the University Of Cape Coast. In 1996 in joined ATL fm on campus and before graduation he was the programs manager.
After graduation he worked with Ghana Broadcasting Corporation in Kumasi as the co-presenter and political analyst. In 2000 he joined OTEC fm as the head of politics and current affairs. Here he was in charge of all political and current affairs programs and then assisted the news editor; and worked there for five (5) years.
In December 2005 he went to Solid 103.7 fm and has been the General Manager ever since the station was outdoored until recently when he decided to host the morning show himself. He thinks recently the trend of morning show presentation has changed unlike those days when every thing was formal; now all you hear is politics he added.
His three hour program has special topics for each day of the week. Tuesdays and Thursdays are for political issues and the rest for social issues. Examples of such social issues are what goes on in the banks, markets places etc.
Aside radio, Yaw Owusu Sekyere is also a professional teacher and teaches geography at Kumasi Girls’ Secondary School.
