The president of the musician union of Ghana, Alhaji Sidiku Buari, has expressed his displeasure about the nature of awards given out to musicians at the Ghana music awards.
He made the assertions at the nominee party of the Ghana Music Awards Festival 2007 last week.
“Fellow Musicians, at this year’s event which is the 8th since its inception, it is the expectation of all that things will be different, that is to say the days where musicians are awarded with wood carvings should be gone forever”, he said.
He continued that for over thirty years now, from ECRAG awards through to the Ghana Music Awards Festival, musicians have been taking carvings and now things have to change. We are tired of getting wood carvings.
“If even beauty queens are given cars, how much more musicians? It is our hope that the Ghana@50 secretariat will also highly get involved with this year’s Ghana Music Awards Festival. Give us money, give us one of the cars,” he said.
Alhaji Sidiku Buari however commended Charter House Ghana, the organizers of the Ghana Music Awards Festival for the organization of the programme.
“Indeed no reasonable person will dispute the fact that the Ghana Music Awards is the best on the entertainment calendar”, he said.
He also hinted that, very soon the Musicians Union of Ghana (musiga) will be coming up with its own awards.
