The first fruits of an ambitious project to attempt to revolutionise gospel music in Ghana and Africa will be launched at the National Theatre.
The three albums from The Shiloh Super African Live Gospel Band and the Kushite Voices from Ghana and the Junior LTJBM Live Gospel Band, are the results of research into the combined use of conventional Western equipment with contemporary and authentic African instruments by the Shiloh Music Academy (SMA).
Dubbed The Ghana Gospel Music Project 2008, tomorrow’s programme will see the launch of an eight-track album by the Junior LTJBM Live Gospel Band. The two other albums, titled Shiloh Vols. 1 and 2, are from the Shiloh Super African Live Gospel Band & the Kushite Voices from Ghana.
The three albums, all recorded at the Shiloh Music Academy, will be available on cassettes, CDs, VCDs and DVDs at the launch. “It is the biggest and most exciting venture into gospel music in Africa.
The essence is to package gospel music that does not rely on computer-generated sounds and which is enriched by engrossing elements from Ghana and Africa,” said Pastor Sampson Joe Baning of the Living Testimonies for Jesus Bible Ministry (LTJBM), of which the SMA is a unit.
He stated that the strong infusion of authentic African instruments into music produced from the Shiloh Academy is an attempt to dispel the notion that culture is the same as fetishism.
