The Freedom Family Band, featuring Lee Duodu and Albert Jones on vocals and Osei Tutu and Bob Fiscian on trumpet and keyboards respectively, last Saturday got Aburi dancing to round off the Odwira festival of the chiefs and people of the area.
A fenced off area in the famous Botanical Gardens came alive around 9.30 pm when the Freedom Family took to the stage playing mostly highlife.
Lee Duodu did some of the material he recorded with his Kantata band in Germany and invited Mac Tonto to guest on trumpet for Akpeteshie.
Albert Jones took over the microphone later to sing Ayelevi, Ocean Wind, Gaskia and Otin Kala. Ben Brako got more people to come forward and dance when he sang three songs from his 21-year-old Baya album.
Lee Duodu came back to round off affairs way beyond 1.00am on a night that saw brilliant musicianship from the Freedom Family and the guest performers.
Music-related activities at the Aburi Palace Square and other spots in town took away some of the crowd expected to patronise the dance but those able to make it had a swell of a time dancing the night away.
